Endometriosis is an oestrogen-dependent condition, related to the presence of uterine mucosal tissue (endometrium) outside of the uterus. The lesions are usually located in the pelvic cavity. The main clinical manifestation is severe pelvic pain, mainly occurring during menstruation, but also between menses, or during or after sex. Quality of life is sometimes severely reduced. Endometriosis is a chronic disease that does not appear to worsen over time, and the pain generally stops at menopause
